چکیده

Preliminary notes A laboratory laser beam drying method for corn grain kernels is presented and the corresponding energy transfer is analysed. The proposed drying method enables fast and efficient decrease in grain humidity while preserving grain sprouting. Laser beam was directed to the thin grain layer with powers of 10 kW/m and 20 kW/m. Grains were illuminated from one side during a period of 30 s with 100 mW, 655 nm and 200 mW, 660 nm collimated laser beam. The method exhibits at least an order of magnitude higher energy transfer compared to the classical drying method that uses hot air as drying medium. The energy savings increase, compared to classical hot air drying, both in laboratory conditions, was between 23,56 and 58,70 % (100 mW laser) and 10,62 % (200 mW laser), depending on grain wet basis and decreasing with decrease of moisture content.

Evaluation of Corn and Sorghum Distillers Byproducts1

Two trials were conducted to determine the feeding value of sorghum distillers byproducts. Trial 1, a finishing trial, used 160 yearling steers (327 kg). Treatments consisted of dry-rolled corn (DRC) control, sorghum wet distillers grains (SWDG), sorghum wet distillers grains plus solubles (SWDGS), and sorghum dried distillers grain plus solubles (SDDGS). Distillers byproducts were fed at 40% o...

Distillers grains as an energy source and effect of drying on protein availability

The use of distillers byproducts as energy sources would expand the market for these byproducts. Drying of these byproducts may produce changes that affect the nutritional value. A series of experiments was conducted to evaluate distillers byproducts as an energy source for finishing cattle and to compare wet vs. dried byproducts. The energy value of wet distillers byproducts was 132 to 174% th...

Wet corn distillers byproducts compared with dried corn distillers grains with solubles as a source of protein and energy for ruminants.

Five trials investigated the feeding value of wet and dried corn distillers byproducts as a source of protein and energy for growing and finishing cattle and investigated the effect of heat damage on the feeding value of dried distillers byproducts. In a calf growth trial, no differences in rate of gain or protein efficiency were observed among calves fed wet distillers byproducts (wet distille...
